The origins of April Fool`s day can be traced back to the Gregorian calendar reform of 1582 which resulted in the New Year being moved from aproximately April 1st to January 1st. People who forgot or didn't accept the new date were considered April Fools. Over time this transformed itself into the hoaxes and trick playing common today.
Hints
Did you know in stats column to the right of the bar map you can see the highest rated and most viewed bars in any neighborhood?Le Scandal
Magicians, sword swallowers, belly dancers, fire eaters, trapeze actors, burlesque dancers and thats just to start. Where else but New York? Every Saturday night the Cutting Room hosts Le Scandal (formerly The Blue Angel Cabaret), a motley collection of acts which never fails to keep its audience entranced. Rave reviews, numerous celebrity sightings, and features in everything from the New York Times to HBO's Real Sex ensure that the house is packed every week.
Craft Night
Smut
A respectable array of New York City writers gathers at Galapagos every Monday for this strangely highbrow/lowbrow weekly smut, erotic performance, reading, and discussion. The quality of the readings and performances vary wildly, but at its best this can be really, very amusing stuff and the Galapagos space, large with tall ceiling and an easily accessible bar, makes an ideal venue.
Roller Disco
Every Wednesday night The Roxy clears their dance floor and creates a roller rink unlike one you've ever seen. A fantastic mix of those incredibly talented skaters you see at Central Park, and people who've never skated before in the life, but truly believe that fluorescent pink, knee high socks, aviator glasses, a headband, and a half dozen Bacardi and Cokes will transform them into Roller Queens.
