Craft Night
Every Monday night Williamsburg's Stain Bar hosts PAINTstain, a "talent optional" craft night. Dabble a bit - sketch, sculpt, knit, write, whatever strikes your fancy. Bring friends and create a collaborative work, or just sink deep into a comfy couch have a drink and listen to the live jazz.
Smut
A respectable array of New York City writers gathers at Galapagos every Monday for this strangely highbrow/lowbrow weekly smut, erotic performance, reading, and discussion. The quality of the readings and performances vary wildly, but at its best this can be really, very amusing stuff and the Galapagos space, large with tall ceiling and an easily accessible bar, makes an ideal venue.

Independence Day
Every year at 9pm on July 4th the air above the East River is bombarded with over 20,000 ariel shells. The results are nothing short of breath taking, provided of course that you can find a place to actually see it. If you try to watch it from the FDR, expect to be part of an Orwellian crowd control nightmare for a better view...
FFWD
On the first Wednesday night of every month Lolita Bar hosts DJ Ty and the indie rock night FFWD. Sets feature a mix of new released and yet to be released tracks with a few indie hits from the last year thrown in for good measure. You can check out set lists from previous nights and even scam a few MP3s at the FFWD site.
