The Village Voice sponsored Siren Music Festival is by far the biggest free concert event of the year drawing almost 200,000 fans to Coney Island. This year the lineup includes: Stars, Scissor Sisters, Art Brut, She Wants Revenge, The Cribs, The Stills, Serena Maneesh, Tapes 'n Tapes, Dirty on Purpose, Celebration, Man Man, The Rogers Sisters, Priestess, Deadboy & The Elephantmen...
The festival starts at noon and runs til at least 9pm, and takes up all of 10th Street and Stillwell Avenue. It'll be jam packed and hot, so bring water and suntan lotion, and have a prearranged spot to meet your friends because cell phone service can get spotty when there's 100,000 other people trying to make a call at the same time in the same 2 square block radius.
From Manhattan the subway should take about 45 minutes to get you to Coney Island.
