Anzac Day commemorates the Australian and New Zealander millitary forces who were killed in war. It's closely tied to the remembrence of the invasion of Europe by Aussie and Kiwi forces at Gallipoli, Turkey. The campaign, which ultimately ended in failure, was one of the most brutal in modern history. Much of the fighting was done at close quarters or hand to hand, and the casualties on both sides were enormous.
Anzac day weighs heavily on the hearts and minds of Aussies and Kiwis everywhere, but as is often the case with our Antipodean friends, they tend to find a practical channel for their emotions, for example, say, into 10 or 12 pints of Fosters.
Be sure to sheck out the Aussie Rules Footbal Anzac day party.
