Overview

Formerly Mare Chiaro, a Little Italy institution opened in 1908, it has recently beeen rechristened the Mulberry Street Bar and bedecked with no less than 8 plasma screens. Tourists flock here to see the place where Johnny Depp met Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco, but while the brick and mortar may be the same the soul has departed.

As popular with movie crews as neighborhood imbibers, this Little Italy mainstay is a throwback to the mean streets.

If you want a friendly, welcoming, fun bar with a HUGE atmosphere go the the MULBERRY STREET BAR!!!!!!! We stumbled across this after a nice meal! We were up for a drinking session and this bar was a scream!! We had a great laugh, had us all up singing, the bar satff and entertianers were magic!!! Think of Pleasentville, with a rugged edge!! We stayed in NY for a long weekend and if we had came across this bar the first night we would have missed everything else as we would have stayed there!!
