Overview
In the ongoing culture wars of the East Village bar scene, Royale is huge strike for UESification. Between the plasma TVs, baseball caps, rounds of shots and the girls whose most comfortable mode of communication is via a series of high pitched squeels you can easily forget that not too long ago this used to be one of the best Jazz bars in New York.
Why You Should Go
- The beer's cheap enough ($3 for a can of Butternut Beer & Ale) and the burger's and fries are tasty enough that you can almost overlook everything else.
What You Should Know
- The $6 burger is made in the Corner Bistro style. Slippery with fat, topped with American Cheese, and immensely satisfying.
- This was the former location of C-Note an East Village jazz standby.
- There's a large deck outback with seats for dozens
- The jukebox is a terror. Get one guy with a twenty burning a whole in his pocket and a Phil Collins fetish and your night can be ruined.

Great for Beer and Burgers
Here are some of the finest burgers in NYC. When you ask them to cook it medium rare, they actually do it and as a result you can tell the quality of meat that goes into this burger. Not to mention the artfully crafted combination of choice buns, lettuce, tomato and pickles that all make this burger one to remember. The jukebox is kinda crappy and the service can be a bit lacksidasical, but it is a great local place that also attracts other manhattanites in the know.
