Barriers to entry like $50 entrees, $19 cocktails, and $125/pp cabaret cover ensure a well heeled older crowd. While the kitchen does its best to keep the foodies away.

Attempting to be simultaneously a sports bar and lounge space is naturally going to involve some compromises. The TVs and noise level distract from conversation, the 30 bottle wine list and potted plants make for an odd place to catch the game. However, the extremely small segment of the population that loves a good wine with the Laker's game this place is your best bet in New York.

An oasis among the cookie cutter bars of the UES, The Auction House is warm, cozy and laid-back. It makes a great place to take a date, or just have a relaxed pint without annoyance of TVs and frat boys exchanging high-fives after every round of shots.

A sleek and trendy wine bar has replaced the UES's beloved DT UT coffee shop. Not wanting to lose out on the previous incarnations stroller set business they're still serving coffee. But those looking for relaxed, comfort of DT UT will be in for a surprise.

A prototypical Upper East Side bar. Reasonable, clean, attractive and vaguely soulless.

A mecca for the frat boys at heart. Start off the night with a little beer pong, then a few rounds of shots, and when your buzz gets going work your way to the dance floor and find someone's hip to hump arrhythmically to the sweet beats of Abba.

A long and narrow Red Sox sports bar. There's beer pong in the back. And you're looking at .25 beers for happy hour.
