With free hot dogs, $3 pints of Rudy's Red (ie Michelob Red), giant banquets upholstered almost entirely from duct tape, and a huge garden is it any wonder Rudy's has been packing them in every night since it opened in the 1930's.

We shudder to think what cutting commentary the Time Out New York reviewers will have to say about this sterile lackluster Times Square lounge.

This West Side outpost of the growing Joshua Tree/Mercury Bar partnership draws an odd mix of theatre goers looking for a quiet drink and Hells Kitchen locals out to get f-ed up.

This polished and classy venue is one of the best places to catch modern jazz in the city. The soul food is above par and the view of Central Park is nothing short of spectacular.

This gritty garage bar blazed a trail into Hells Kitchen back when there were only a couple of other gay bars in the area. The scene nay wax and wanes (mostly waning recently), but the 11-midnight happy hour always seems to bring in something tasty.

This giant money making machine, sucks in crowds through its relatively egalitearean door policy, and spews them out on the street at the end the night with empty wallets and sweat stained Tshirts. Bottled water $5. ATM fee $8. Vodka Red Bull $15. But hey, they've got shower dancers.

This Garden of Eden on the 15th floor is open in the summer for hotel guests only, but for the chance to sip a tropical drink in a hammock over midtown it might just be worth trying to sneak in.

This bi-level gay bar is a slightly more low key option than Vlada Lounge. It's equally easy to have a conversation with friends or make new ones depending on your fancy. And if you feel like doing both your friends can take over one of the couches lining the wall near the bar and lure in passing hotties.

There's little indication from the neon signs and roughshod exterior that there's an attractive bar with a good wine selection within.

There's a particular type of good time to be had at a bar that boasts that exotic dancers drink for free on Sundays. Throw in some tequilla shots, a few frozen drinks, and a bunch of urban cowboys and things good and messy.
