Warm atmosphere, live jazz, and a garage door which swings open in the summer makes for an open air delight. Go for wine with friends and skip the overpriced entrees.

When a publicist opens a bar you can expect a bit of hype. They've dingied up the entrance of the old Sly to give it a speakeasy feel and set the word out that celebrities frequent the place and yet there's no doorman. The result is expected, people packed in like sardines each wondering why they're here.

Head into the Hotel and to the Mercer Kitchen, walk past the host stand, and head for the back stairs. If you're lucky you'll make it down to a tiny AAA list basement haunt. If you're not, no amount of money, pleading, or models on your arm will get you in.

Bypass the uneven experimental cuisine of the top floor and head instead to the handsome basement bar where the experimental twists on classic cocktails make you feel like $12-$15 cocktails are a bargain.

A club for people who like music and want to dance. No pretense, no attitude, and DJ's who take their job more seriously than themselves.

80s music and a location convenient to the Holland tunnel bring in a crowd of Jersey kids who were just a glimmer in their parents Apple Pucker martini when many of these tunes were getting radio play.
