Depending on which definition of cool you subscribe too, the Whiskey either approaches the pinacle or falls far short. The design team was top notch - everything shimmers or shines or glows. The crowd looks great. The dress code is strictly enforced. Hair wax is mandatory for men, women must either support their bosoms in a water bra or wear no bra at all. However, the fault line appears when you realize that the bar and its patrons are all trying very, very hard. And isn't that by definition the antithesis of cool? |

Cozy, upscale hotel bar has a backlit bar, a skylight, and candle lit tables creating a simple, sophisticated ambience. There's no scene per se, but that's its biggest charm. |

At a time when authenticity is fast becoming outmoded in New York, it's heartening see Jimmy's Corner packed to occupancy on a Tuesday night. |

An elegant and sophisticated slice of classic New York. Enjoying a perfect martini while soaking in the sounds of an 11 piece orchestra featured on Saturday nights is an experience well worth the $30 cover. |

A small, simply appointed, vaguely Victorian cocktail lounge on the second floor of the Peninsula Hotel. |

A large prototypical hotel bar where you easily imagine you were in any city in the US were it not for the floor to ceiling windows overlooking Times Square. But that in and of itself is reason enough to go. |

A good afterwork option. Friendlier and less touristy then most options in the area. |

A genuine taste of the suburban Southwest. The food here is easily on par with TGI Friday's and the cocktails would give anything at Hooters a run for its money. Best yet they've got the city's first mechanical bull, the perfect after dinner stomach mixer. |
