Behind its incospicous Smith Street façade lies a former Italian social club turned hip bar. Sticking close to its roots it retains a feel of old world decadence. |

Attempting to be simultaneously a sports bar and lounge space is naturally going to involve some compromises. The TVs and noise level distract from conversation, the 30 bottle wine list and potted plants make for an odd place to catch the game. However, the extremely small segment of the population that loves a good wine with the Laker's game this place is your best bet in New York. |

As one of the few dive bars in an area ruthlessly homogenized by after work crowds this benign bar almost feels edgey in comparison. You can get a bucket of 5 Sam Adams for $15 and pount of wings for $10 and there are 22 TVs to catch the game on. |

An elegant space with enormous windows on a great corner is home to Red Hook's first $10 cocktail lounge. They serve three types of absinthe and selection of beers that extends to the truly unusual. |

An after work gay bar in midtown? Although the second floor location and masked windows look seedy from the outside, the bar within is clean and attractive. There's the ubiquitous piano lounge, a separate bar area, and even a plant filled back garden. |

Although the décor may look cut from a catalog the prices are good ($5 burgers, $3 happy hour pints) and the garden is big enough that you can find a seat there even on the sunniest days. |

A uniquely Sunset Park kind of place. The place is big but the rooms are tight. The door policy on weekends is simultaneously too restrictive and not restrictive enough. And the theme is too tiki to be cool, but not tiki enough to be hip. |

A rustic wine bar with an emphasis on craft and organic wines from smaller vineyards. Thanks to the warm and comfortable atmosphere and a flirtatious and handsome bar staff it consistently has one of the highest female to male ratios of any bar in Carroll Gardens or quite possibly the entire city. |
