Although anyone who's lived in Williamsburg more than a year will claim the scene is far past its sell by date, Union Pool remains an attractive and popular space. On a weeknight in the fall a spot by the firepit in the back garden is nothing short of a treasure. |

This fair weather garden space has $2 PBRs and an aesthetic which transcends dive and ends up somewhere near trash heap. Oddly it's quite a relaxing and comfortable place to while away an afternoon. |

Named for the parking lot it replaced this bar and restaurant lays claim to one of the few outdoor spots in the area. The quality of the food and service is somewhere between TGIF and Olive Garden, but the people watching on Prince Street is top notch. |

The Porch lays rightful claim to the best garden in the East Village as the summer crowds here attest. But during the winter the dark woods and warm lighting creates an indoor atmosphere every bit as appealing. (Just reopened Sept 2007) |

In the ongoing culture wars of the East Village bar scene, Royale is a huge strike for UESification. Between the plasma TVs, baseball caps, rounds of shots and the girls whose most comfortable mode of communication is via a series of high pitched squeels you can easily forget that not too long ago this used to be one of the best Jazz bars in New York. |

Unpretentious yet refined, it's hard to imagine a better rendition of the New England seafood shack. |
