Plush furniture, a cool bi-level bar aimed at enhancing site lines, and a stage full of Go-Go boys 5 nights a week. How wrong can you go? |

The working class roots that the area's many art school dropouts are at such pains to emulate are evident in spades at this Williamsburg dive, but there's no need to worry that the hipsters will take over. This bar has top notch hipster repellent - heavy metal. This leaves the associated regulars to profess their love for the free tater tots without worrying about the quality of their ironic lilt. |

Calling a bar a frat bar implies at least a partial college education. Failing such ready nomenclature this is a Drink too much, puke in the toilet, tip the bathroom attendant the change in your pocket, go back to the bar, sweat profusely, wait forever for a drink, get in a screaming match with your girlfriend and call her a slut, then cry on her shoulder on the cab ride back to Penn Station kind of place. It's also great for parties and fund-raisers. |

This long thin dimly lit bar draws neighborhood regulars with cheap drinks and a relaxed vibe. |

A co-owner of the Spotted Pig snapped up the former West spot, and created this velvet rope nautical themed dive bar. The beer is cheap and the food is low brow but shoots for the stars, and the sunset view is nothing short of spectacular. |

An unpresuming dive, but the Cherry Tavern is that rare Manhattan bar where strangers interact. |

An adult offshoot of Homer's Malt Shop next door, the Blue Donkey Bar attracts a neighborhood crowd with a décor a notch warmer than the many nearby beer and shots joints. |

Cheap beers, dim lights, beat up sofas, wood paneling, and a pool table - this could almost be a frat basement, except it's the kind of bar where frat boys get kidney punched. |

There are few pleasures as singular as a crisp cold Czech lager and a kielbasa hot off the grill, enjoyed in this sun filled beer garden. |

In the ongoing culture wars of the East Village bar scene, Royale is a huge strike for UESification. Between the plasma TVs, baseball caps, rounds of shots and the girls whose most comfortable mode of communication is via a series of high pitched squeels you can easily forget that not too long ago this used to be one of the best Jazz bars in New York. |
