Books up and coming talent for short sets at a high cover and then relies on the musicians to fill the house with friends and family. It's a good business. Every hour the place empties and a whole new group comes in paying a brand new cover. |

Impress your friends from out of town, sure the place isn't actually hip, but man does it look the part. And the bathrooms will give them a story to tell their friends back home. |

Burger joint by day turns to frat boy playground by night. Women dance on the bar in high heels and feel empowered. Men feed them shot after shot to remind them that real power is a function of body weight and liver fortitude. |

This locals dive is one of the oldest bars in Harlem. It's not so much a destination as a place to end up. But it you find yourself here, there's a pool table, a game on the TV, and even a piano against the wall if you've got the chops. |

Some of the best views to be found anywhere in the city make all other considerations a distant second at this deco piano lounge on the top of the Beekman Tower. |

If ever (god forbid) a series of circumstances conspire so that you find yourself in Times Square and also really quite totally stoned, than this dingey basement piano bar is so bad it just might be a really good time. Order a Coke and zone out as you watch the drunken businessmen sing along to Frank Sinatra. Otherwise under pretty much all other circumstances it's best avoided. |
