Replace the battery on your iPod
At this point most everyone has heard about or more likely seen the video exposing iPod's dirty secret. Namely, that that $500 40GB iPod or even that sexy mini-iPod you just bought has a shelf of about a year and a half. At that point you'll have to buy a replacement battery for $250 Apple. Well, under heavy pressure Apple has responded with a new $100 battery replacement program. And if that's to expensive for you then you can do it yourself for about $50. So now what's stopping you from getting one?

Steveo says: Thinking about ripping the Hitachi 4 gig microdrive out of your iPod mini while you replace that sorry-ass battery?? Watch out - reports state 'early despoilers' of the iPod mini have been frustrated by their lack of success in getting the stripped drives to work in their digital cameras. However, the same can NOT be said for *FIRST GENERATION ONLY* creative Muvo players, which were released without the hardware/firmware lockdown scheme that Apple (wisely - props to their forsighted antihack!) put into place before mass production.
The idea, of course, is to offer the devices themselves at a marketable pricepoint but continue to allow Hitachi to keep the microdrive's ginormous retail price propped up.

Chris says: SlickDeals routinely lists Muovo 4GBs players for <$200, that's some serious savings over the price of 4GB microdrive alone which can run $300+, and if you toss a $40 256MB card in there you get a pretty nifty MP3 player to boot.
