It is common practice to mirror websites which receive a great deal of traffic on another server. However, creating a site which is literally mirrored is definitely an uncommon practice.
Go to the siteSet your books free
Bookcrossing.com is one of those rare sites which makes truly realizes the potential of the internet. The idea is simple. Take a book you own. Go to BookCrossing.com and get a unique ID for it. Write a note and the ID on the inside cover and then just leave the book somewhere public. Someone will find it, read it, go to the website and leave a note about it, and then they too will leave it somewhere public. Essentially you introduce your book into the wild with a tracking device. Then you follow it until it falls apart or some prick keeps it (which seems to rarely happen). With almost a million books in the wild and counting your odds of finding a bookcrossing book are getting higher everyday.Go to the site
The 1000 journal project
1000journals.com is an experiment in collaborative art. The idea is that one thousand journals are mailed out to the first one thousand people who sign up for them. The next people to sign up get in line behind the first thousand. Each person contributes something to the journal and then mails it off to the next in line. Eventually the journals will get returned to the website filled with beautiful imagery and prose. The concept is wonderful, but it seems most of the journals eventually end up in the hands of someone who is too lazy, busy, or greedy to pass them on. Thankfuly due to the sheer number of journals in distribution at least some of these have made the rounds and returned to the website owner greatly improved.Go to the site

Eliza, named after Eliza Doolitle from George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, is an old school bot, written in 1987 by Josephy Weizenbaum. Eliza works like a psychoanylst - asking a lot of questions, repeating your answers back to you, and occassionally asking if there are connections between things you said ealier and things you are saying now. Sometimes this works really well, other times not so well at all. However, some very funny results can occur when you plug Eliza into a AOL Instant Messenger. Which is exactly what someone did...Go to the site
New York City in Legos
Sean Kenney is to put it mildy a lego enthusiast. The man is slowly recreating New York City lego by lego. The results, documented on his site, are pretty damn cool. Perhaps we can even forgive him the questionable taste of accidentally knocking over his lego WTC.Go to the site
